The Bullmastiff is an English canine breed of the molosser type, developed by breeders to select a dog exceptionally well-suited for guarding. Early attempts using combinations such as Mastiff–Bulldog–Irish Wolfhound or Mastiff–Bulldog–Great Dane yielded limited success. More effective results were achieved by Sam Mosley, who bred only Bulldogs and Mastiffs, creating the Bullmastiff—originally used not only for guarding but also for tracking and capturing poachers.
