She stands staring out the window, the dark glass merely reflecting the same lack of light as her dark eyes. A sound, a smell, a whisper from the darkness - and buried memories escape the locked corners of her mind.
She remembers how the Sun felt so warm on her pale skin, the way her heart was beating with her love. She remembers the echoes of laughter and smiles - from her lips and from the one she loved. They were madly in love, young love full of dreams and aspirations.
Then dark tragedy struck down their love, tore away the dreams of the future. The pain of it ripped her heart open. She can still remember the anguish, the tangible pain when both love and life were wrenched away into the darkness. The prayers and pleas spoken, screamed, and then whispered, but still unheard by the Powers that Be. She pleaded for Him to take her life for his, but it was all for naught.
She remembers the dark path she chose, how she felt there was no other option left but the dark options. Her last prayers to save his life, when she gave her life to the eternal darkness, in a hope that by walking this dark path, that his life may yet be spared ....
As the memories fade, she is left with the final remembering of how it went so wrong ...
So now she stands, staring darkly out of a window darkened with age, the voices and the memories fading, leaving her alone again, within her silent house of memories, locked away within the darkness of her mind.
