For most, this is short lived as once the paint has been slathered on, death often follows soon after. Some use it as a time to spend the rest of their lives solving a problem deemed impossible, in order to benefit the future of their society (eg. taking out a local warlord, roaming giant, going into seal the plague pits etc). For others, they take on the role of a reaper, ending the lives that have been deemed unworthy of living.
To don the paint of the Dead Man is not in celebration of a god or of faith, just death itself. The finite end of life. Due to this the Dead Man is feared, for if one sees a Dead Man, death soon follows…
