The Byōdō-in is a Buddhist temple in the city of Uji in Japan. It was originally built in 998 A.D. as a rural villa but was changed to a temple in 1052 A.D. The main building is called the Phoenix Hall and houses a great Amida Buddha.

It is divided into three parts, the East and West Wings and the Main Phoenix Hall. Featuring wall hangings, paintings, wind chimes, opening doors, and a golden Amida Buddha statue.
