Name: Bjuvia Simplex
Period: Permian to Late Triassic. 298.9 to 201.4 million years ago.
Notes: An extinct cycad that existed in the Permian and Triassic periods. Unlike modern cycads, it had a simple leaf pattern. In the Permian arid climate, Bjuvia and all archaic cycadales, could find more room to live as the plants of humid environments died out. Bjuvia went extinct in the late Triassic in favour of more complex cycadeoids. Like modern cycads it was dioecious, meaning male and female cones appeared on separate plants.
