The Mughal Empire was an early modern empire based in South Asia between the 16th and 19th centuries. For some two hundred years, the empire stretched from the outer fringes of the Indus River Basin in the west, northern Afghanistan in the northwest, and Kashmir in the north, to the highlands of present-day Assam and Bangladesh in the east, and the uplands of the Deccan Plateau in South India.There are a number of swords that originated in India and have seen their usage throughout the history of warfare. Many of them stand out for their high-quality craftsmanship and benefit from a number of local resources and traditions, but the use of foreign technologies and materials is not prevented either.The talwar, also spelled talwaar and tulwar, is a type of curved sword or sabre from the Indian subcontinent and is most widely spread and used weapon in this region. An urumi is a sword with a flexible, whip-like blade, originating in modern-day Kerala in the Indian subcontinent. It is treated as a steel whip and therefore requires prior knowledge of that weapon as well as the sword. For this reason, the urumi is always taught last in Indian martial arts such as Kalaripayattu. Zulfikar was a very vital sword in Mughal era, specially used by Mughal emperors and generals in the battlefield to break the opponent fighter's sword or short dagger by its own divided blade during fighting and that made to killing enemy more easier on that weaponless situation.The tegha sword was used by the Mughals, Marathas and Rajputs. It seems to be of northern Hindu origin. The distinction between the tehga and the talwar is very narrow and only a sword with a very broad, deeply curved blade can be considered to be a tegha.
