They won't speak his name. To do so might bring bad luck, or worse.

But the boys with their eyes wide with excitement and their faces covered with elaborate tribal markings will enthral a visitor to their tribe with tales of his throne.

The Elephant Throne.

They will tell in hushed tones how he would sit upon it while his victims pleaded for their pathetic lives. And they will tell how he would watch as his loyal followers ended their miserable lives.

The young boys revel in the discomfort of their audience, as they shock with descriptions that grow more gory with each telling.

But none of them have ever seeen the throne, let alone sat upon it. How do I know this? Because I know what happens when you do...

I see them, full of life, enjoying their macabre tales, vying with each other to shock the most.

They don't lie awake at night tormented by dark dreams.
They don't hear their name whispered by treachorous winds.
They don't feel the icy breath, soft as sin, upon the back of their neck.

Their ears are not tormented by the silent screams of his victims.
Their eyes do not forever see the dead walking among them

But so it is for those who have found the throne and sat upon it.
And as it is so for me...
