The Fabricator

The Fabricator is a new content add-on for Daz Studio 3 and 4 that gives you thousands of easy options for adding your own high-quality textures to clothing, props and figures with just a couple of clicks. Set up as a Shader module, The Fabricator uses bump, displacement, reflection, specularity and transparency settings to transform your chosen cloth pattern into any one of dozens of different weaves and textures. It comes bundled with 66 different fabric prints and types and 43 different weaves – that’s 2838 different texturing options!. Using it is easy: just apply your pattern, then add your weave. Two clicks is all it takes.

The quality of the underlying maps means The Fabricator produces high quality, extremely realistic fabric textures that render wonderfully well close up. The included prints comprise ginghams and florals, plaids and stripes, denims and leathers and wools, velvets and felts that you simply tailor to your taste by selecting your own diffuse color. Among the weaves are jerseys and silks, wools and cottons, chiffons and moire silks, knits and velvets and even blankets and towels. All these underlying maps are carefully crafted and tested to deliver great results, even under default lighting.

And you can easily add your own fabrics to The Fabricator just by making a seamless square that tiles nicely at 10 by 10 and saving it as a Shader Preset with default DS settings. The weave does all the transformation work. The Fabricator is the ultimate DIY texturing utility. Look out for add-on modules that will make it an even more important tool in your runtime arsenal.
