Name: Distichophytum Ovatum
Period: Late Silurian to Early Devonian, 425 to 393 million years ago.
This Variation: This version is for use with Poser, versions for DazStudio and Vue also available.
Notes: First discovered as fossils of Early Devonian age consisting of isolated spikes of sporangia (spore-forming organs). The base of the plant remains unknown. The sporophyte consisted of narrow leafless stems which branched dichotomously. Stems which did not bear sporangia ended in blunt points and fertile branches bore compact one-sided spikes of up to 20 laterally attached sporangia, more-or-less opposite.
