The set was designed based upon the dimensions and ergonomics of an M16 rifle and Colt M1911 pistol, so they could actually be carried and used by real people. The assault rifle was designed first and then a set of weapons based on it, just as some real armies use several weapons based on a common internal mechanism. We all know that "silencers" as depicted by Hollywood, just don't exist; a screw in suppressor does make a gun quieter and it also hides the muzzle flash quite well. But the gun will still make a fair amount of noise, not the quiet little "pop" that Hollywood loves so much. But there are and have been real guns that quiet, like the famous De-Lisle carbine, which makes more noise when cocked than it does when fired. These are rare collectors items. All real guns that are so quiet do not have screw-on or otherwise detachable suppressors, they have BUILT IN NOISE SUPPRESSION. With that in mind these useful props are designed to look like guns with built in suppression, made from advanced composites to keep down the weight and make them nearly silent but absolutely deadly.
