EVERYPlant Prototaxites Caledonicus for Daz

EVERYPlant Prototaxites Caledonicus for Daz

Name: Prototaxites Caledonicus

Period: Late Silurian to Late Devonian. 420 to 370 million years ago.

This Variation: This version is for use with DazStudio, versions for Poser and Vue also available.

Notes: It formed large trunk-like structures up to 1 metre wide, reaching 8 metres in height, made up of tiny interwoven tubules around 50 micrometres in diameter, making it by far the largest land-dwelling organism of its time. It is widely considered a fungus, but the debate is ongoing. Its exact relationship with extant fungus lineages is uncertain. It was almost certainly a perennial organism that grew over multiple years. Several ecologies have been proposed, including that it was saprotrophic (feeds on dead organic material) like many modern fungi.
