They bear spherical heads of Lilly like flowers born on slender stems late in the year. the foliage is strap like and fairly unremarkable and has long since died down when the flowers appear.
Common in temperate gardens but naturally rare in the wild and under various conservation schemes in their native habitat, these exotic-looking but very hardy plants are a wonderful splash of color in the months leading up to Halloween.
