3Delight Render Engine Tutorial Workshop

3Delight Render Engine Tutorial Workshop

When using 3Delight do you struggle with your renders and characters looking just flat without so much sense of depth?

DAZ Studio includes the 3Delight render engine, which is a viable alternative to Iray when used for certain circumstances. This render engine continues to provide some powerful features. You can get impressive artwork using the standard 3DL and shaders, but it does require a deeper understanding of lighting and the shaders.

In this tutorial, Karl Knarr explains the light sources available in 3Delight, tricks for realism and advanced features like shadow controls and targeting light sources for specific surfaces.

This tutorial includes a segment at the end where a few artists in the community share a selection of their 3DL based artwork and tips.

Who is this tutorial for?

  • DAZ Studio artists wanting to learn the 3DL engine as an alternative choice
  • Artists or animators who want faster rendering options
  • Artists who create non photo realistic characters and scenes
  • DAZ Studio artists who don't have an NVIDIA graphics card.

About the Presenter : Karl Knarr (AKA JonnyRay)

Stonemason's The Walled City is a really interesting set that I've lit using 3DL. It has several light fixtures that work well for showing the valuable tips we will use and can be lit in interesting ways for both night and daytime scenes. : Karl Knarr

While Karl's formal training is in computer programming, he has been learning and sharing tutorials on DAZ Studio since 2014. You can read more about Karl's digital artist journey and his blog https://karl3d.wordpress.com/ here.
