History:
Jedi Holocrons are Jedi items used to store information and teachings of the Jedi Order. The holocrons are built with a security mechanism that prevents non-Force-sensitive people and more precisely the Sith Lord from accessing that information; preventing them from opening and accessing the secrets stored inside. The teachings contained in the Jedi holocrons were generally passed on to the opener as an interactive hologram. Sharing found knowledge about the Jedi holocrons with anyone who was not a member of the Order was discouraged, as most holocrons contained data related to the nature and applications of the Force. The holocrons were stored within the Holocron Vault, located within the Jedi Archives of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Access to the Vault was only allowed to Jedi or their Padawans.

Holocrons were information-storage datacron devices used by both the Jedi Order and the Sith that contained ancient lessons or valuable information in holographic form. Jedi holocrons were also called Jedi datacrons. They appeared as palm-sized, glowing polyhedrons of crystalline material and hardware, and could only be activated and used through the power of the Force.
