Dive And Fall

Dive And Fall

There are many excellent renderings of scenes where the heroine or hero is diving or falling into a body of water (or other liquid). Be that a dive from a cliff to escape enemies, a memorable cannonball into the swimming pool or just falling backwards into water with arms spread out. These scenes imply motion based on the pose our action star takes on. Yet, there could be something missing! In the rendered images, while diving or falling, our heroes enter a still, motionless body of water. There is no trace of ripples or waves supporting the dynamic motion shown in the scene.

Well, not anymore! The DiveAndFall product includes three distinct model sequences (Sets 1, 2 and 3) of a body of water reacting to a human diving or falling into it (a human model is not part of the DiveAndFall product, you need to supply your own human :o) ). To ensure realism, the models were generated using a fluid dynamics simulation to capture the formation of eddies, waves and cavities as a body falls or dives into and submerges in water. Each set contains between ten (10) to twelve (12) distinct prop models giving rise to over 30 highly detailed models in total. In Set 1, the effect of a human body diving arms first is captured. While in Set 2, the famous cannonball pose is taken up by the human body. In Set 3, the human falls backwards with arms spread out.

But there is something that really sets these models apart from just a water surface with waves and ripples generated by the human body. It is possible to render the scene not only from above the water, but from a vantage point within the water. Simulation details were captured such that the cavity formed by the human body is present along with some bubbles. This enables accurate rendering of an underwater scene because there is a liquid material interface around the body, giving a unique perspective while further increasing the realism of a render.

I hope these new prop models will add a splash of fun to your scenes.
Happy rendering!
